Investment Planning

Everyone has a financial goal in mind – be it planning for future school fees, paying off a mortgage, helping younger family members with a house purchase, or simply enjoying a comfortable income in retirement. No matter how distant or nebulous these goals may feel, our advisers can help you define and meet them, through a meticulous and disciplined plan. Aspects of our financial planning services include:

School fees can be prohibitively expensive and often become families’ biggest outgoing, along with a mortgage, so it’s well worth planning as early as possible so you can send your child to your school of choice. Our specialist financial planners can help you put a bespoke financial plan together, so you can fully understand the costs, what you can realistically afford and the different funding options available to you. We can then help you choose the investments and products most suitable to your position to make sure school fees don’t become a burden on your family’s future.

The value of an investment with St. James’s Place will be directly linked to the performance of the funds you select, and the value can therefore go down as well as up. You may get back less than you invested.
To enjoy the lifestyle you want in retirement, you can’t simply rely on your state or employer pension income. We can help you work out different ways of generating an income, from private pensions to well chosen investments that can provide multiple, tax efficient income streams. We can also work with you to identify how much you’ll need in retirement so you can plan accordingly and spend your post-working life enjoying the type of lifestyle you deserve.

Building up assets and wealth over time is a common goal in life, and once achieved you will not want them to decline in value. A financial planner can work with you to first identify your short, medium and long term lifestyle goals, as well as your goals for your family and legacy, then help accrue and preserve your wealth, supporting you to make sensible decisions aiming for your assets to be maintained or increased as time passes.

Retirement Planning

A thorough understanding of the national tax system allows our advisers to work together to create a retirement plan that meets your own unique circumstances. Services include:

You can pay as much as you like into your pension in a single tax year, but there are limits on what you can save before a tax charge applies. You also need to be mindful of how much you can build up in pension benefits throughout your life before having to pay tax. Our financial planners are specialists at managing pensions in a way that they’re protected from these charges and can help you make the most of your pension savings in retirement and in leaving a legacy.

The value of an investment with St. James’s Place will be directly linked to the performance of the funds you select, and the value can therefore go down as well as up. You may get back less than you invested.
The levels and bases of taxation and reliefs from taxation can change at any time. Tax relief is dependent on individual circumstances.
Where you save and invest your money can have a huge impact on your retirement income. We can advise you on different investment options and help you manage and diversify your portfolio to help maximise your income in retirement in the most tax efficient way possible.

Using our various cash flow modelling softwares, our financial planners can help you understand your likely retirement income from your various sources of income, such as your state pension, private pension and investments. We can also project your possible retirement income if you take advantage of different investment options.

In an uncertain world, it’s never too early to start arranging for the future, and our advisers will be keen to ensure you have a clear, sensible and realistic strategy in place. Retaining and protecting wealth requires vision and a carefully thought-through plan. Everyone’s circumstances and requirements are different, but this service may include:

A large proportion of your wealth, such as your family home, investments and assets, may need to be sold after you die to meet the Inheritance Tax liability.

You cannot sell the assets to pay for tax, the tax needs to be paid before the assets from the estate are released.

In collaboration with our financial planners, our specialist tax advisers can offer proactive advice on all areas of personal tax planning, including:

Capital Gains Tax (or CGT) is an extremely complex tax, charged if you sell an asset for a profit. It’s easy to end up paying too much or be punished for not paying enough, but our financial and tax planners can help you reduce your CGT bill, using options such as holding your shares in an ISA, claiming allowable expenses, making the most of family members CGT allowances and splitting your gains over multiple tax years.

With your tax return, you can calculate your tax liability, schedule tax payments and ask for refunds if you’ve been overtaxed. So it’s vital that it’s properly completed with details of your income, expenses and other relevant information. Our financial and tax planners can guide you through the process from start to finish, so you can be confident you’re on top of your taxes and paying the right amount.

If you’re a first-time buyer, a home mover or looking to remortgage your property, it’s vital that you have the right mortgage in place. We offer a comprehensive range of first charge mortgages from across the market, which lenders make available to mortgage intermediaries, for which we will be paid a procuration fee by the lender. These reflect your needs and circumstances, from mortgages for buy-to-let investors to intergenerational mortgages for those who want to help their children and grandchildren onto the property ladder.

The home on which the mortgage is secured may be repossessed if repayments are not maintained.
Some buy to let mortgages are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage.
